Three Decades as the Island’s Premier Destination
Over the past three-plus decades, Main Street Village has become a favorite place to shop, dine and stroll around on Hilton Head Island. As one frequent visitor to Hilton Head recently said: “If you want to wander around and browse unique shops and then enjoy dining at the same location, then this is the place to go!”
Lowcountry residents and vacationers alike agree: they are drawn here by the selection of establishments and tree-shaded, friendly, nostalgic atmosphere. As one islander points out: “It is a very pleasant shopping area with no big box stores.”
Located just outside the main gate of Hilton Head Plantation and just off Highway 278 (William Hilton Parkway) between mile markers three and four, visitors don’t have to fight traffic here and can enjoy easy parking and no-hassle shopping.
A key feature of Main Street Village is that so many of the businesses are family owned and operated, which adds to the ambiance, and is somewhat unusual in this era, where franchises and large chains typically dominate the retail landscape. “It’s a lovely place to peruse around” said one shopper. “Employees all seem pleasant and helpful. They allow you to browse without hovering.”
One of the best parts of the village is the eclectic selection of both eateries and stores. Three of the most popular dining spots on Hilton Head, according to Trip Advisor, are located here as well as some of the choicest and most unique boutique shopping places, including specialty stores with prime quality merchandise.
Main Street Village is indeed a community of businesses where the owners care about the customers they serve. Over the years, three of the businesses including Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy, which is heralded for its customer service, have been named “Small Business of the Year” by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
